Hot, Hot, Hot

It's just past 10:30 a.m. and it's already 86F out there. I think it's supposed to rise on up to over 100 before the day's out so I hope it has cooled off before Zach's ball practice this evening at 6. Our plans today are to stay inside with the a/c until we have to leave for that practice.

Everything outdoors is suffering from the heat and lack of rain. I think James told me they'd had no more than a sprinkle on the farm for more than 50 days now.

This is similiar to the variety of crowder pea we've planted. They make a yummy, thick, broth that makes for some FINE eatin' if ya add a pan of cornbread.

I had some photos of the water starving plants around my yard but blogger is being a BITCH again and they disappeared when I went back into this post to edit it.

Yay! First!

What are Crowder Peas? Are they the same as garden peas? Are they edible? Can you poison the horrible little bastard next door with them?

I love fresh garden peas, if thats what they are (I'm probably wrong though).

The weather here in Blighty is very warm and clammy too, despite some wonderful thunderstorms the other night.

I believe it's been about that long without rain around here, too. At least Dennis has had to mow for a while. I'm wondering if there will be any sweet corn to eat, though.

I'll find you a pic of a crowder pea Piggy or Taz?. I think they're a southern variety of pea.

Miz Kim James's brother brought me about 10 ears of corn for supper that he pulled today. He said by the weekend we should be able to pull all we want. It's irrigated so it should do ok.

We had a wee bit of rain on Monday. Just enough to wet your whistle, but not nearly enough .
We just had to have more work done on our ac. Had to have the blower taken out and cleaned and the vents cleaned out. The ac man added some more Freon for good measure. Now she's pumping out like a two-dollar whore! I'm lovin' it!
I don't know how people get through the summer without air conditioners.

I hardly recognized you Ms. Brenda.

We have so much rain it is draining the life outta me.

Wish we could send some rain up (over, down) to ya!! I love those peas you're talkin' about, but, I GOTTA have FRIED CORN BREAD!!! :)

I can remember going through many summers without an a/c Miz Wanda and I sure was glad when they became more affordable.

Miz Mary lou I reckon we're paying for the "normal" summer weather we had last year. It was the first year in decades that it wasn't "hot enough to scorch a lizard's ass".

Don't let it drain ya Miz Joan, but if it does, will you leave your pond to me in your will? (wink) It's still me here (waving hands in the air)

Send it on Miz Cal it won't be wasted down here fer sure!

Ms Leslie, Nope, it taint fair at all! Seems like Mother Nature would be kind and spread it amongst us. ,,,,see Lizard's ass hot above in my reply to Mary lou (grin)

I LOVE fried cornbread Miz Sally but it doesn't love me very much. I'm up and ovah there I reckon.

Ok, is that "northern cornbread" or "southern cornbread", cuz there is a BIG difference!!

Brenda said...

Suthern Mr. Brent, and yep, there is a big difference! Which do you like best?

I only know of one cornbread, and it is baked. We have it with navy beans and hamhocks, and then have the leftover cornbread in milk for breakfast. (dad liked it with buttermilk).eeeyuu!
FRIED???
Those crowder peas look alot like black eyed peas, and I love a bowl of them simmered 'til they are mushy, with hamhocks in 'em! And doused with tobasco sauce!
