James and Zach had doctors appointments this morning and we arrived in Helena a little early so we drove over to see if the road was still closed going to the River Park (it still was last week). The road was finally opened so we crossed over the levee to go see how much damage the flooding did to the park.
I love going to this little park to sit and watch the barge traffic and other boats going by. When I worked in Helena, years ago, I would often take a sandwich and spend my lunch hour on the board walk.
This is the river park which is on the river bank, across the Mississippi River levee from Helena.
I think if you click to enlarge this photo, you can see the water marks on the board walk where it was all covered in flood waters except for a little of the railing. All this water seen here is not there when the river is below flood stage.
The Mississippi River looking north, towards Memphis. Those little bush tops sticking up on the right side of the photo is the river bank when it's not flooded. The road we're on(which is built up but is much lower than the main levee) was completely under water this time last week.
These are trees which show how high the water was before it started receding. I took this shot from the road also.

Dang Brenda, that looks SO peaceful. I'd just hate to be there when the water got to high. Hope your having a good day;o)
Wow, that reminds me so much of the way parts of the Appalachicola (sp) have looked from time to time - except the trees are cypress. It's Tuesday? Well, durn if it ain't!! Hope the drs appts went well. :)
My Word!! That water line was high!!! Look at the dead foliage!! Great pics Brenda!! Thanks for the up date!! Hope all's doing great with you!hughugs
So GLAD I live on an island! I just have to worry about it sinking in the BIG ONE that is due to hit any year now....
Sure looks like Spring down your way. It is still cold and wet and gray here! My tulips have finally opened up, but it is too cold to sit out and enjoy them.
The water was really high! Glad it looks like things are getting back to normal. I bet the park is a beautiful place to hang out and watch the boats go by!
We did a little drive around ourselves on Sunday to see the waterlines here. Amazing, isn't it?
Looks like y'all have had as much flooding as we have. Holy cow... it's been horrid and the ramifications now, what with people having to build elsewhere instead of where they was, moving to higher ground, not only in distance but price too.
Now we've had those damn high winds and damn near sucked our roof off the house. Mother Nature really needs to clean her act up and that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Hope y'all are safe and sound, what with that Tornado hitting in Arkansas and all. Please post soon. ((hugs & smoochies))
