Waiting makes me crazy

We spent the day at the hospital yesterday, waiting. Today they took BIL in to do the dye through his heart and there appears to be no damage but they'll keep him in ICU because his heart beat is abnormally irregular. He's supposed to be evaluated by another doctor late next week to see if he needs a pacemaker. Another wait. Not sure when they'll begin rahab on the problems caused by the stroke. After the day spent there yesterday I am more than ever convinced that the reason medical costs are through the roof is there are too danged many specialists who have forgotten how to be doctors. If they ever learned how in the first place. Ask 3 of them the same question and you'll get 3 different answers, hell, if you're not ill when you get there, after all the frustration, you're insanely ill after a few days in there.

While sitting outside the hospital in a nice little garden I glanced around and noticed that 3 out of every 4 persons I saw in and around the place had cell phones to their ears. What in the world did they do before this technology was available?
When did it become acceptable to be having phone conversations as you eat your dinner or, in another instance, as you sat on the pot to pee? (yep, there was in lady in the stall next to mine). Maybe I'm just an old fuddy-duddy but I believe the technology is great in that I have my phone for emergencies and convenience, but I think folks who go around with their cells constantly glued to their ears or their hips have an awfully rude, bad, habit in the making.

I had about 5 gals of tomatoes ready to can today so I got that out of the way a while ago cause tomorrow we'll be heading back to Little Rock so James can spend the weekend at the hospital. Zach and I will stay with Trish. They turned out good, I think, and will taste mighty good next winter.

Another photo of Zach's sunflowers.

Glad to hear you have some good news on your brother in law. I know what you mean about mobile phones. They are very handy. But people seem to think they can't function without them. We seem to spend half of our time in the library telling people to turn them off!

Good to hear that there's no damage to the heart!
Those tomatoes do look yummy, and tell Zach he's got a green thumb for sure!

It will probably be a long road yet, but hopefully he will recover completely.

Bless your heart...I know waiting around at hospitals is hard, but you want to be there for the loved one.
As for the cell phones...have you see the what I call cell ears...these are like a hands free type thing...the other day at Target this man walks in with a goofy grin on his face and says to himself I thought..."Yeah...I'd like that...Uh Huh...Yeah!!" I thought he was gonna you know what right there in Target. Now, that will mess with your head...lol!!
Those 'maters look yummy...I see soups and warm chili's in your future this fall and winter.
:-D

Oh wow I have so been there. I'm sorry, I know how frustrating that can be.

And I totally agree with you on the cell phone issue.

One thing I miss is the wonderful taste of canned vegetables during the winter. No one around here cans anymore. It's so sad!!

I'll add your brother-in-law to my prayers. I hope that he rebounds from his stroke very soon, and that his arrhythmia can be controlled with medication.

I'm with you on the cell phone thing; I often see a man "having lunch" with friends, colleagues or even family, while yakkin on his cell the entire time. If anyone did that to me, I'd stick him with the bill and then refuse to go eat with him again. Very rude!

You and I have similar thoughts about cell phones. I don't understand especially when a parent and child are in the grocery store (a great time for bonding) and Mom or Dad spend all their time on the phone.

Makes me crazy!

It sounds like good news at the hospital. My prayers and best wishes are sent.

I hardly ever use my cell. It stays in the car for emergencies.

I just did 6 pints of strawberry jam for the THRIRD time. I just cant get it to gel. So now it has 6 cups of sugar, and TWO packages of sure gel in them. Probably turn hard as a rock!!

I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN.......

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones.

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it as if we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as a gift?
What if we used it as we traveled?
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

I had something all ready to say about supposed medical specialists and evil cell phone users, but then I got distracted by the sight of those amazingly delicious-looking tomatoes.

Dude, I can't believe you've already started canning.

If those tomatoes get to taking up too much space, you let me know and I'll be glad to pay postage to take them off your hands!

Zach's flowers look BEAUTIFUL!

I hope everything else settles down and turns out OK!!

Glad to see some good news on BIL.

I was scrolling slowly when reading about the dye injected in his heart and caught sight of the canned tomatos.

I thought OMG--she's got a picture of it!

My friend and I were recently talking about how modern society has evolved to become so integrated with technology. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory falls, the possibility of uploading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I daydream about every once in a while.

Nice post... Looks like solid state memory is finally beginning to take off. Hopefully we'll start seeing a drop in solid state harddrive prices in the near future. 5 dollar 32 gig Micro SDs for your DS flash card... sounds gooooood.
