I'm Slow, but I eventually get there

I want to apologize for not getting around to visit blog friends as often as I'd like to but the combination of old "Arthur", who's been giving me hell when I sit for very long, and this blasted dial-up, that on a GOOD day gives me a 28.8 kbps connection, my visiting time is sometimes limited. Please don't give up on me, I'm 'a tryin!

Nice site, Brenda. Found it by googling "Southernisms".

Thought you might be interested in the “Somerset Dictionary”. Somerset is a county in SW England. It's one county over from Cornwall and just across the Bristol Channel from Wales.

Compare this list to words you know from the Southern dialect and I think you will begin to see one of the origins of the way we speak.

Some of these words you will not recognise but keep reading. I guarantee that overall it will seem very familiar.

BTW Do you know the origins of the Southernisms ‘booger’ ‘the booger man’ and ‘Watch out the booger mans will get you’? They come from the Cherokee custom of the “Booger dance”.

I know what you mean about Arthur - he's been a'visiting here also in the knees; first time for that!

Brenda, I'm on copper.net, and on dial up. It's wonderful - don't have to wait more than 15-20 seconds, 56K, and it's only 14.95/month. Love it!!

I did dial-up for 6-8 months a few years ago thinking it would save me some money (it totally didn't) and it drove me mental. I know you don't have the option of switching to DSL or cable, which totally sucks. If I had to deal with this slow computer AND dial-up, I don't think I'd be on the innanet at all, let alone blogstroll.

Hang in there, toots. And tell Arthur to fuck off.

Miz Sally, if I lived in town I'd be able to get the full extent of my 56k modem but living out in the country like I do, nope, nada, the phone lines were put down when Barney the dinosaur was a pup.

We're not going anywhere so whenever you have time to visit us, we'll be there:-) I understand your frustration with dial up...I had it for 7 years and have now had cable for 4...could never go back to dial up!! lol
