Summer used to last longer that it does now, didn't it? Back when I was in school (you know, when those dinosaurs were hanging around), we never started school until after Labor Day and those extra two weeks or so made for a full 3 months of lazy days and lots of play.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to school being in session again, but by doing so, I'm already dreading the end of summer, cause with the start of school, it means that there are only a few more weeks of it left. (Even though we don't really have any Autumn weather until late October/early November here).
I love long days of sunlight.
I love being warm.
I love seeing everything green and growing.
Last night we went to the Parent's Open House at school. I filled out the usual forms, paid class fees, bought a new journal for Zach to record his assignments in, picked up a list of supplies he'll need, and spoke to his homeroom teacher. He had this teacher in the 4th grade so he was happy to have her again this year. I didn't meet his other two teachers but hope to be able to do that soon.
I sure hope he has a good year this year because next year he'll be over in the High School building with the big kids and have a few more teachers.

It's hard to believe that summer's coming to an end. All the college kids around here seem to be leaving next week.
I love the long days too. And the warm weather.
And the tomatoes. Although we should have tomatoes in the garden for a good long while yet.
I can't believe school is almost back in session, and that my grandson will be a senior (with my fingers crossed that he graduates). He's had some problems/issues very similar to Zach's, Brenda, but it's all gonna be good.
School shouldn't be allowed to start until after Labor Day! Anywhere! (At least in the U.S.)
I sent my daughter to first grade today. I can't IMAGINE one more year until high school, but I know the time will fly.
Enjoy those last few, (somewhat) carefree days while you can!
My nephew started school Mon in Nashville. I love your header photo.
I know, Brenda! It seems the older we get, the sooner summer ends! Hope he enjoys school this year. I suspect you will be enjoying some time off!!
I hope all goes well everyone for this upcoming school year!! *HUGS*
Oh, I had to go this morning and then this afternoon for PREP days at the Jr. High (Little Billy) and then the High School (Courtney and Chloe). I am not looking forward for school to start - even though I know it means time to myself during the days - I still don't want summer vacation to be over - I love summer vacation.
Take care - Kellan
School fees? What are those? I know, I can't believe that it's the middle of August already!
I know I am always sad to see summer go. I love the long days, the lightning bugs everything about it. I like Fall but after that comes the dreaded winter(not a fan) LOL I was at Target today and there were so many Moms and kids getting school supplies.
I can't believe we're already in mid August...seems summer flew right by and I didn't see it! We didn't have any of the really hot temps you had, in fact, it's been staying in the low 70's so it's another reason why I feel we really haven't had any summer here!
School starts after Labor Day here so we've kept the same traditions we had when we went to school:-) xoxo
Is he going into the 8th grade this year? If so Sam is too so we'll probably have similar school stories this year!!! LOL!
Our summer just got here this week! The kids were late getting out this year because of SNOW days...and they start back September 2. So it is almost 2 1/2 months.
GREAT JOB Zach. Those hummers are fast!
