Photo Challenge - Purple

This was a hard one for me cause there's not much of anything the color purple around my house and neighborhood. But our Beans did wear purple to school on Tuesday so I was able to snap her cute self posing in purple.

These are some pretty little weeds that were growing beside the highway. I had to slam on my brakes and back up to get this shot. Luckily it was a rural highway and the traffic was almost nothing.

My purple morning glories.

It's that time again! Upload anything purple that you've snapped with your camera, post them to your blog, then go over to our photo challenge blog and follow the directions to leave a comment about your post.

It's fun!

And we love to see your work!

Thank you Miz Donna for the purple idea!

Sports Equipment Stupid

Zach is playing jr. high sports and they've been practicing football. Yesterday he brought home his mouth guard with instructions for me to "boil it so I can form it to my mouth."

So I did,,,for several minutes cause I forgot about it.

It started out looking something like the ones in the top photo. The end result was the strange object below.

What he meant to say was "put it in boiling water" for a minute. He's pretty mad at me for following his instructions. We both now know that mouth guards are not boilable.

And he forgot to take money this morning to replace it. I reckon I'm in hot water again.

Mousy Demise

Jerri took this pic while they were in Panama Beach, Fl a little over a week ago.

While Jerri was helping Zach to clean his room on Saturday, they found some baby mice in the bottom of his couch/toybox. (Yep, I'm going to have to give up on my farmer and call the exterminator) . Beans and Alexis rescued one and decided they would make him a home outdoors (at our insistence). Anyway, they laid mousy down and somehow, Beans stepped on him which brought a quick demise for the little fella, so they decided a funeral was needed.

Nanaw to Alexis: Are you going to eulogize him the way my brother did when my sister lost her kitten? "Asses to asses, butts to butts, if he'd kept his butt out from under that car, he'd still be with us."

Without missing a beat or a change of expression, Alexis said, "No, I'll say, Lord, Lord, why did this mouse die? Cause Jillian stepped on him and now she's about to cry."

There is never a dull moment around here.

Weather Forecaster

I picked Beans up from preschool on Wednesday because her Momma was busy with plumbing woes. She got busy right away watching cartoons on Noggin. When PopPop got home a little earlier than usual and asked Beans if he could turn the TV for just a minute to see what the weather forecast was, she jumped up, went and looked out the door, and told him, "It's sunny", before sitting back down to watch Little Bear.

Gonna catch up tomorrow!

I hope. I hate when I miss a day or two of reading what my blog buds have been up to.

We had a little rain today, the clouds looked ominous but only had a little shower.

Had visits from the Chick and Beans the last two days, that's been sweet and funny.

The neighbor's dog took a bite of our Beans today, THAT wasn't a bit sweet or funny!

I visited the doc today, some blood work, some new pills to try, but can't really fix old and creaky.

Gonna hit the hay, hope everyone's been having a great week!

Photo Challenge- "View From Above"

Today's the day for the newest Brenda Photo Challenge and Miz Charmine was kind enough to choose our challenge prompt, "A View From Above", and our display date. Thank you bunches Miz Charmine!

Looking down at Zach and PopPop as they climbed down for a closer view of the Blanchard Springs that are responsible for the Blanchard Springs Caverns in the Ozark National Forest near Mountain View. (Please click any of the pictures for a larger view).
Looking down on a portion of Sylamore Creek near Mountain View, AR.

A shot of the White River taken from atop the Bluff at Calico Rock, Ar.

A view of the overflow from Mirror Lake, part of the creeks and streams near Blanchard Springs in Arkansas.

I had a lot of fun with this one! Be sure to visit the Brenda Photo challenge Blog comments to view all of the other wonderful views for this challenge.

Thank you again Miz Charmine!

More of the Ozarks

The guy at the general store had these baby rattlers in a box.

You'll probably need to click to enlarge the picture to see them better.

A collage of some different views in and around Mountain View, AR. The last picture is of the small painting I bought by Ken IronHorse.

G-Force at the Drive-In

Turn down highway 87 beside City Hall, go a ways, up and down gentle hills, to the outskirts of Mountain View. Watch for the water tower because just a few feet past it is a tiny, graveled, lane full of pot holes, beside a little green sign that says you've reached Theater Lane. Turn right to follow this lane around to a 1950's era drive-in tucked into a somewhat level pasture behind the water tower.

Stone County Drive-In is one of only a few survivors of the almost dying era of movie viewing. The screen is patched and a bit tattered but once it becomes dark enough to project the movie onto it, the tatters don't matter at all.

As more and more families arrived in cars and trucks and put down tail gates and lifted hatches, set out lawn chairs or a blanket, the memories came flooding back of movies watched decades ago from the backseat of a car, or the bed of an old Ford truck. We sat in the truck in comfort; Zach sat on the ground down front with some kids from the car in front. Fireflies, buttered popcorn, and fountain drinks, making new memories remembering times past.

Headin' For the Hills!

We'll only be a few miles from the big town of Fifty Six; might find something interesting to snap there.

Craft shops of all kinds, music, and antiques, there will be loads of stuff to look at.

We're packing up the truck tomorrow and heading for the Ozarks; gonna leave these flatlands behind until we come moseying back on Sunday. Zach and James are going to go through Blanchard Springs Caverns; I'm going to take my cameras and tripod and do some serious (I hope) shooting. We may drive on up to Bull Shoals lake, or maybe just wander around Mountain View (where we're staying) and take in all the craft and antique shops. I'm having more problems than usual with my back, knee and legs painin' and swelling but I intend to hobble along at my own pace.

We'll probably take Zach's laptop so we may be in touch while we're gone.

I hope everyone is having a great week! I'll get around to visit soon!

Photo Challenge - Keeping Cool

A little dirt doesn't make a bite of ice taste any less refreshing.

First a finger, then a toe, then,,,oops I'm in trouble,,,oh well, might as well,,,,

I took this shot and the one below in August 3 years ago. The water hose throw over a low tree limb made a delightfully cool shower.

Miz Judy at A Road to Here is our hostess for this photo challenge. Y'all be sure to thank her and go over to the photo challenge blog and click the participants listed in the comments to see all the wonderful work!

I Said I Would

This is going to have to pass for a post. I've just been in such crappy moods lately that I can't get my head around an original thought.

Please don't forget the Photo Challenge tomorrow! Miz Judy at A Road to Here is our hostess and she's given us a "Keeping Cool" prompt for our photos. I'm gonna go upload mine right now and schedule the post. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Swimming at Bear Creek

Jerri and I took a load of little girls and Zach to Bear Creek Lake yesterday.

Zach fished, and fished, and fished, but he finally came over to the swimming area and got wet about 15 minutes before we went home. Abby went over to the dock to fish with him off and on.

The humidity was horrible but it was cloudy so that helped a lot with the temps; not a bad afternoon at all.

YET, Another Reason for Hating Wally World

Every time I think that my shopping experiences with these people may be improving, just a little bit, I find out that they were just lying in wait until they could think of something worse to top the last crappy experience they gave me.

Zach wanted to stop in to buy some stuff for his tackle box in hopes that he'd get to go fishing today. I needed to buy some drinks so we stopped on our way back from his doctor's appointment.

While I was in that dreaded store, I decided to look at their bras cause I was in need of a new white one. They had some JMS brands that were only $15 that I wanted to try cause normally I have to pay over $25 for bras stout enough to support my boulders. I found one, and put it in my basket.

So, we stand in line forever and finally have our turn at the register. The checker scans the bra and I hear this extra noise when it scans and say, "They put magnetic thingies in bras? People steal bras? Oh please make sure you fix that so it doesn't ding when I go out, that is SO embarrassing!" She agrees and told me that it was demagnetized so no worries.

I start through the exit doors and the dinging begins. I step back with my basket and it stops, and the man guarding the door says, "Let's see what you've got."

I told the man the only thing other than drinks, fishing tackle, and toilet paper that I have is a bra and the checker said she demagnetized it. He takes the bra, waves it in front of the scanner and it does nothing. (it's not enough that I'm embarrassed as hell over the dinger going off, I've got my DD bra being manhandled by the door greeter now!) I start back through with the basket and it goes off again. He takes it over to a register and demagnetizes it again, puts it back in my bag, I push the basket through the door, and "DING".

I stepped back and told him, "you need to go through my bags and see that there is absolutely nothing in there to cause this, and before you even imagine that you might ask, you will NOT be going through my purse or putting your hands on my person or touching the children, so you might need to call the police if you are having any of those ideas."

I was getting mightily pissed by this point and begin to look around for a manager and I notice this wally world vested fella standing beside the doors with yellow box thing with buttons in his hand.

And he's laughing.

"What's so funny?", I ask.

"I'm making it go off?", he says.

"Making What go off?", I ask.

"The security device that is making the alarm noise when you go through with your basket.", he says.

Y'all don't even want to know what I called him before I herded the kiddies out in front of me and we escaped to the truck. I think if the kids hadn't been with me, I'd have kicked him in the hahas, dammit.

Brenda Photo Challenge : SHADOWS

It's time again to view some wonderful snaps taken by some delightful bloggers. Miz Lynn is our hostess for the Brenda Photo Challenge this time. She chose Shadows as our prompt. It was a load of fun looking for shadows these past two weeks. Please thank Miz Lynn and hop over to the Brenda Photo Challenge Blog so that you can click on the other participants in the comments section.

I tried to capture the cool shadows looking down into this creek from atop a little bridge.

I've posted photos that I've taken along "Lost Road" before. I especially love driving through here in the Fall. The sun was high and the trees that grow along side the road cast wonderful shadows.
This eerie lady looks out from the second story window of a closed antique shop on Cherry Street in Helena, Arkansas. I imagine she feels as abandoned as much of the rest of the street due to there not being nearly the businesses there now as there once was. I thought she looked lonely standing there in the shadows gazing out at what used to be a bustling river town.

He Shoots!

He scores?!

Kitties and Southern Speak

Jerri claims that these are the laziest, baddest, two kitties in eastern Arkansas. The two sleeping muffins are Garfield and Pumkin; not sure which one is which though.

We were sitting outdoors watching the kids early this afternoon. Jilly Beans had a rake and was raking some twigs and little limbs to add to their little hot dog and marshmallow fire pit. Beans wanted Zach to help her and was trying to tell him where there was a hoe.

"Look a'hind jeew, Zach."

Zach say's, "What? Huh?" (you know boys, you've got to repeat directions)

Beans says, "Look a'hind jeew!"

Zach still has this "what in the heck are you talking about" look on his face so Beans decides to enunciate her words.

"Look A'Hind JEEEW!"

I've laughed every time I've thought about that conversation today.

I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Beans yesterday on my blog! Happy 4th Birthday Beans!!

Trying to outrun the neighbors German Shepard.

My Grandma always told me,,,

,,,,if you don't have anything good to say, say nothing at all.

I guess I'm just pissed off and pissed on right now and wallowing in self-pity.

Happy 4th of July!

Emotional Reserves are Emptying Fast!

I've been trying to avoid any emotionally draining situation that I possibly can. I've quit smoking dammitall, so why wouldn't I want to stay away from situations that would make me want to inhale a whole pack even worse than I do already. Right?

So I'm trying to pick and choose the situations that cause emotional stress.

My youngest daughter is attempting to get a divorce and her husband is being a total ass about it. She's my daughter, I love her, otherwise I'd lock the door and not allow her in the house until the divorce mess is all over and settled.

I have friends and family who need to talk and who I worry about and love dearly. I choose to listen, to love, to worry, to pray, with them, and for them.

These things I choose with my heart.

I chose not to attend a get-together with family I have not seen or heard from in years. The emotional wear and tear relief from not seeing them has been so nice. That stress factor is not something that I've missed. I refuse to feel guilt over not attending the event so calling me will not make me change my mind, understand?

I did not exactly choose to attend the get-together that I will be attending tomorrow because I know for certain that the emotionally draining vampires will be out in force at that location. I do however, refuse to allow them to drain me. I'll walk away, ignore, or do whatever else I need to do to disable them.

These things I choose with my mind made up.

Before I forget, Happy Independence Day everyone!

Details Pending

I'm trying to wait until Zach is in the mood to tell me about his trip.

The child is hardly ever excited about stuff after the fact; "I did it, it was fun, now what else is there to do?" His excitement, any that might show, is all beforehand and most of that is nervous excitement that comes across to me as being as grumpy as a troll.

I stayed up all night, with the exception of an hour nap, so that I would be sure to get him to school at 3:30 A.M. yesterday. He was upset because his camera didn't charge and he wasn't able to take it so that turned him into a monster troll all the way up till the time I dropped him off.

When I picked him up last night at 11, he was grumpy because they'd been riding on a school bus for more than 8 hours that day so he didn't want to talk about what they'd done at the Space Center just yet.

This morning he's still dozing off and on.

I'm impatient.

Oh well.

Dilema

Zach has a field trip tomorrow. He has to be at the school at 3:30 A.M. because they're going to Huntsville, Alabama to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. They're supposed to arrive back home at 11:00 P.M. tomorrow night.

James is my alarm because he's always up at the crack of dawn. but dawn doesn't crack around here that early. And I don't usually hear an alarm unless I'm sleeping right on top of it. So, should I set an alarm and trust that I'll wake up, or should I just stay up, get him to the school, then come home and crash? I don't have any kids tomorrow so I can sleep later.

I'm tired enough to go to sleep right now.

Country Morning

I was awake before 7 this morning because of all of the buzzing and zipping of the fella below. He has to be out when the sun comes up to take advantage of windless conditions to spray the crops, but I don't mind too much. Early morning wake ups are not a huge price to pay for the privilege of owning our little spot in the country. Even the endless dust doesn't matter so much when I compare it to living in a town in these parts.

I snapped this shot of the crop duster as I was coming back from taking Abby to school earlier. It was barely 8:30 a.m. and already 89 degrees; it's gonna be another hot day here in the Mississippi River delta.

Soon after I got back home I cut up some okra that a friend sent over yesterday. He was fortunate enough to get his garden planted in between the April and May rains, so his is producing cucumbers, peppers, and okra already. This will taste mighty fine at supper one night this week. We've gotten some squash and potatoes from our garden so far and I'm watching and yearning for the first ripe tomato but that will be awhile longer I think.

Time to go do a few chores, give my back a break, and do a few more, and the Beans and Alexis may come by to play today.

Better check the popsicle supply.

Photo Challenge - Macro

It's that time again and Miz Janice was kind enough to give us the Macro prompt for this photo challenge. Many thanks to her cause I always have fun with the macro setting on my camera. Y'all be sure to click the comments entries at the Brenda Photo Challenge Blog to see all the other wonderful macro challengers!

Here are my macros; each taken with camera hand held since I've been too lazy to drag out the tripod in this heat. You can click each one to get the full macro view if you'd like.

An up close shot of my rose moss. This is a tiny little moss plant that has the most glorious colored blooms.
Rose of Sharon porno. It's much prettier with the macro setting off. :-)

Can't leave out a macro of one of the most beloved critters around here. I share hoppy shots a lot.

Macro can even make these little bitterweeds look lovely and regal. They smell horrible so I'm not sure what Mr. fly is so attracted to.
