Momma Killdeer

I've seen killdeers lay their eggs everywhere along the gravel roads around here but this momma must have thought she'd found a prize location at the empty ball field on Wednesday until the park began to fill up last evening. She was little more than 2 feet from a much used path leading from the parking area and she had her feathers puffed out and was raising 9 kinds of hell every time someone passed her nest. I bet she was one tired momma by the time the games were over last night around 10ish.

    Poor choice.

We have a lot of Canada Geese on our campus at work. And every once in a while they nest right by a path. Beware all passers-by. They are nasty when they're angry.

That's a new bird for me, but a very cute one. Nice picture, Brenda. Hope her nest stays safe.

I saw a Killdeer nest in cotton field recently and Momma was having some kind of fit when we got close. That is first time I have seen a nest in some and it brought back some fond memories.
