Gotcha!

I've been trying for a year to get a photo of this guy. He stays near a ditch on the rural road leading to my house and he usually flys off before I can get my camera on and ready to get a shot of him. He landed not too terribly far off in the field yesterday so I zoomed in on him. Not the shot I want and hope to get some day but he still looks rather wise and gangly standing there. I think he's some sort of crane.

  1. What a great pic Brenda! It is always rewarding when you finally get the one that "usually gets away"!

It's a blue heron. We have lots of them here in LA. They're beautiful in flight.

  6. Gosh, he looks cold and hungry to me. Poor fella needs a good pair of pants and a hot meal. He really needs to put some weight on those legs.

  9. Who knew there were so many amateur ornithologists in the blogosphere? I don't know much about birds, except they like to shit on my barbecue.

My Granny would say that's a whooping crane.

Those skinny a*s legs, that beak, the ugliness of it all... yep, she'd say it was indeed a whooping crane.

We get those little cranes here, kind of reminds you of a flamingo (pinkish in color) and they will stand on one leg for hours around the pond.

Thanks for sharing Brenda, you always have the neatest "stuff" when I come over here. :)

    smooches!

I don't know what kind of bird it is. We had many great blues land on our property when I lived in upstate New York on the shore of a big lake. I didn't think it was a great blue heron, but I could certainly be wrong.

Great shot. I'm glad you got it. And thanks so much for sharing it with us.

I was going to say what David said -- nice shot, Brenda. He's a big 'un too, hey?

You still have green grass! Sigh. I remember green...vaguely.

And I have to say that it's so much fun seeing all these pretty color schemes you come up with. This is really nice, Brenda -- so easy on the eyes.

Have a good Friday and a great weekend. :)
