State of the Union

"The president's speech shows that he continues to be in denial about the realities in Iraq and here at home. He is dressing up tax breaks for wealthier people as a solution to our health care crisis. Americans need better health care with good doctors, not more accountants to figure out complicated tax schemes. The speech showed that President Bush and his Republicans allies in Congress refuse to acknowledge that their new Medicare plan is a disaster." _ Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.

"After ignoring problems in our nation's health care system for five years, President Bush touted an expansion of Health Savings Accounts tonight that will cause more problems than it will solve. Health Savings Accounts and Association Health Plans only shift more costs onto consumers, making health care accessible primarily to the most well off. The president failed to propose a way to make insurance more affordable, more accessible and more secure for more Americans." _ Rep. Frank Pallone, D-Long Branch

"Tonight, the president once again uses compassionate language and then offers policies that hurt, not help, the average American. Enough is enough. America has seen before what happens when a president thinks he is above the law and when his supporters in Congress think staying the course and trickle down economics will solve all of our problems. It's time for a change." _ Rep. Steven Rothman, D-Fair Lawn.

I had hopes that, for once, President Bush would set aside his love of fancy words and empty promises to do something constructive during this second term in office that he's been grated. I now fear it's hopeless and we're being fucked over once again. I don't know about ya'll, but I want the same health care benefits that our members of congress, who were elected to serve us, are privy to.

Is the a democratic view? Only if being human is being democratic.

Brenda I'm sitting here almost ready to cry. I can't tell you how much it means to me to see a woman such as you, someone I admire and respect, say the things I'm feeling.
I don't think we should give up just yet. We just have to work together to reach out and convince more and more people to take a real look at what is happening in our country.
I posted my opinion about tonights speech over at Words on A Page.

Nicely put Brenda - I, of course, have given up hope on GW, well I never had any hope about him in the first place.
Working in a major corporation's benefits department rest assured our government will soon have to seriously address health care cause companies are no longer able to afford these skyrocketing costs. This crisis will implode eventually.

I found myself watching his address last night as well, out of curiosity more than anything. His speech writers ought to be commended in making pretty much everything appear to smell likes roses. The highlight for me was the standing ovation for Coretta King.

The rest was the same ol', same ol'.

Well, it meant so much to me that I even forgot to watch it. Does that tell you anything?

Words, words, words....lip service. I feel for the hundreds of thousands of American senior citizens right now not knowing what to do, where to turn in regards to their prescription drugs. It's a crying shame when a person works all their damned life, pays into SS, and then have worry how they're going to afford to stay alive. Ohhhh.....

If Hillary Clinton really wanted to be President, she ought to run on the fact that it was the Republican Party, led by Newt Gingrich that defeated all efforts to reform health care delivery in this country. And they're still against it! I bet this is one where the country doesn't agree with their Republican government.

Those crooks only get away with their crap because too many good people don't speak up. Well said, Brenda, well said.

I want the pay that congress receives and the benefits, and I want a vacation home where it's warm. I don't think that's asking for much!!!!

I get so embarrassed when he tries to talk that I can't watch him, it is too painful.

I don't even bother to listen. The older I get, the less attention I pay to politicians.

I get so "fed up" with everything, be it Republican or Democrat and I know I'm not the only one that gets that way. It just seems like that old saying... damned if you do and damned if yo don't and you sure as heck can win for losing. (something like that anyway).

Hope you're having a swell Thursday Ms Brenda... and aren't you just doggone happy that silly groundhog saw is shadow, so we've got 6 more weeks of bad weather. Personally... here in my neck of the woods, we ain't had no Winter yet, but I ain't gonna complain, no sirree! Of course I have my suspicions that the groundhog is of the wrong political party or he'd keep the hell in his hole and not be sticking his doggone head out. *snorts*

P.S. Did you know that sometimes those doggone words (on word verification) is so danged scrunched up together that us "almost blind" people can't read them. Of course I love going back 2 and sometimes 3 times to TRY & type in the correct thing. Makes me hang around on your blog longer, donchaknow? T-H-A-T I-S A-L-L and aren't you glad? (chortles)
